BIOGRAPHY

Petros Papageorgiou had his first contact with music from a very early age, when he attended the State Musical Conservatory of Ioannina. He studied Western musical theory and the electric organ for four years. Then soon he meets and studies the percussion instruments dedicating his interest in the Greek traditional music.

In the meantime he graduates from the School of Rural Engineering of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and he completes his masters in the field of Geodetic Applications. At the same time, he continues his personal exploring in the world of percussions. Since 2003 he is a core member of En Chordais ensemble.

He participated in numerous seminars with renowned percussion musicians, such as Misirli Ahmet, Bijan Cemirani, Ziya Tabassian, Fahrettin Yarkin, while he has also attended the International Percussion Meeting (Tunis, 2004).

As a percussion player and member of En Chordais he is being awarded with the "Prix France Musique des Musiques du Monde", Babel Med Music / Radio France (Marseille 2008) and was nominated for the UNESCO “Sharjah Prize” for Arabic Culture (2006).

He has performed in concerts in many foreign countries around the world, in distinguished festivals and renowned venues such as: The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium of Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Salle Pleyel (Paris), Berlin Philarmonie (Berlin), Theatre de la Ville (Paris), Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Egypt), Carl-Orff Saal Gasteig (Munich), Silk Road Arts Festival (Hong Kong), Melbourne Recital Centre (Australia), Ten Days on the Island (Tasmania), Fès Festival (Morocco), Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris), Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall (Istanbul), Onassis Culture Center (Athens), Cite de la Music (Marseille), The International Jerusalem Oud Festival (Israel), Athens Concert Hall, Les Suds à Arles Festival, Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Journées Musicales de Carthage (Tunis), Cairo Opera House, Tropenmuseum (Amsterdam), Gibraltar World Music Festival, Romanian Culture Institute (Bucharest) and in many other worth mentioned cities throughout the world (Beirut, Cologne, Frankfurt, Odessa, Larnaca, Nicosia, Limassol, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Dubai, Wuppertal , Sighisoara, Helsinki and others).

As a guest teacher he has given master classes at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland.

He is working also as a solo musician and collaborates with musicians and artistic folk groups in the Region of Epirus participating in various events, festivals and concerts in Greece and abroad (Sardinia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and many others). 

He is co-operating with many famous Greek and foreign musicians and artistic ensembles such as: Hellenic National Radio Television Orchestra, Ensemble Constantinople, Anton Pan, Theodossi Spassov, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Kudsi Ergüner, Melihat Gülses, Mehmet Bitmez, Misirli Ahmet, Zohar Fresco, Fahrettin Yarkin, Liu Fang, Françoise Atlan, Yelda Özgen, Necip Gülses, Trio Khoury, Imane Homsy, Ghada Sbeir, Rima Khcheich, Samir Siblini, Kiya Tabassian, Ziya Tabassian, Derya Turkan, Petroloukas Halkias, Chronis Aidonidis, Solon Lekkas, Nikos Saragoudas, Jasemi Saragoudas, Maria Farantouri, Grigoris Kapsalis, Nikos Filippidis, Kostas Anastasiadis, Vangelis Karipis, Haig Yazdjian and many others.
